ABSTRACT

Organisational climate has become one of the pressing issues in both public and private organisations. The general objective of the study was to examine the effects of organisational climate on employees’ performance using Accra Metropolitan Assembly as the area of study. Specifically, the study was to identify the factors that influence organisational climate. Further, it was to examine the effects on employees’ performance. A random sampling technique called systematic sampling was employed. Data was collected through the use of questionnaires from eighty-eight (88) employees at Accra Metropolitan Assembly which constituted fifty percent of the entire population of one hundred and seventy-five. Descriptive statistics methods were used in the data analysis. Conclusion drawn from the study shows that, majority of the respondents agree that the organisational climate at Accra Metropolitan Assembly is healthy and subsequently influences their performance positively. In the light of the findings of the study, it was recommended that the government should ensure that public institutions have a healthy organisational climate so that workers will be able to maximize their input for a good performance. Government should also create more jobs so that employees who are not satisfied with their organisational climate will have better options elsewhere to reach a maximum satisfaction and also perform highly. Management of Accra Metropolitan should also be sensitive to individual differences in needs and avoid predicting that all employees will react in an identical manner to changes in policies on organisational climate.
